Been Caught Stealing...

Following up to my previous post, here’s the email I sent to the kiddo’s teacher.

Message :Mrs [TEACHER], While going through [KIDDO’S] book bag today, I found six containers of lip gloss. I asked where they came from and was told the “Treasure Box” on Friday. Assuming this was a good thing, I asked if she was that good to get six prizes, she said no; she was only supposed to get one had taken extra for her “mom and family.”

I was furious and lectured to her about the wrongs of thievery and karma and the cyclical nature of the world. I told her I was going to bring her to school Tuesday, march her into class, and have her return all the lip gloss and confess to you her offense. She begged me not to, saying it was her responsibility to make it right and be a big girl and do the right thing.

After considering this, I have decided not to come with her, but to see if she can handle the growing responsibility she will encounter as life progresses. However, I am no dummy and want to let you know that I expect her to talk to you tomorrow and return all six items and offer an apology. Please let me know if she does not return all six of the items.

On a side note, I sincerely apologize for her actions. I try to teach her and guide her properly, but only having a two day visitation window limits some of the effect I have. This is not how I expect her to act and, again, I am deeply sorry.

Respectfully,

[ME]

cc: [PRINCIPAL]

I am posting this here because I hope, in due time, the kiddo will find her way to this space and read what I did. Not to embarrass her, but to teach and mold her into a great human. Not the thieving trash that is so abundant these days.

Can’t stand a fucking thief.

“A true father is always there. He is there to spill tears of happiness when his eyes fall upon his infant daughter. He is there with arms to catch her when she takes her first steps or stumbles. He is there to teach her at the youngest age, even though she might not understand half of it. He is there to help her color inside the lines, make her grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, and tie her shoes. He is there to hug her and kiss her on her first days of school, and to walk her in if need be. He is there to teach her and tease her and laugh with her. He is always there to embarrass her, but that’s part of life. He is there to tell her to go ask her mother, when her mother told her to ask him. He is there to lecture her, prepare her for the monster called high school. He is there to put up with her teenage moods and her co-ed relationships. He is there to approve, disapprove, accept and forgive. He is there to give her a big bundle of flowers when she graduates, to smile when her name is called and feel proud. He is there to embrace her and kiss her before she goes to live and learn a thousand miles away. He is there to see her become a workingwoman, to walk her down the aisle (or not, if her independence and stubbornness prevail after all). He is there to watch her grow as the lines on his face grow. He is there to welcome her home, always, and let her hug him and smell the smell she remembers from childhood, the warm, protecting, comforting smell of dad. But most of all, he is always there to love her. And she is always there to love him back.” —

Spring Cleaning

Last week or so, my girlfriend and I decided on a grand idea of trying to save as much money as possible to plan a move to Seattle in a couple of years, all things going perfectly that is. To start, we moved all the things from her storage unit into my crowded apartment which led to an even more crowded apartment.

Me being a bachelor for so many years has led to the accumulation of just “stuff”, combined with the fact that I’m a guy and don’t clean very often, means that her previous talks of us having to clean the place up turned into action. And when I say action, I mean ACTION. She’s like a cleaning ninja.

So, we started cleaning Wednesday and I was like:

She hopped into cleaning mode and was all:

Now that it’s Friday and we’re almost finished with setting everything up and I see how AWESOME it looks, I am:

I love her.

“The father of a daughter is nothing but a high-class hostage. A father turns a stony face to his sons, berates them, shakes his antlers, paws the ground, snorts, runs them off into the underbrush, but when his daughter puts her arm over his shoulder and says, ‘Daddy, I need to ask you something,’ he is a pat of butter in a hot frying pan.” —Garrison Keillor  (via lifetoheryears)
